why I write stories

I’m Porsche Thomas — a storyteller and mother (and a committed sourdough enthusiast).

I’ve always believed that everyone has a voice worth sharing, and that belief has shaped how I see and experience art, stories, and the people behind them. As a child, I was introduced to poetry and became aware that words could be art — something that moved people. I started writing and performing my own poems at libraries and competitions in the fourth grade, and learned that even at a young age, my voice mattered.

Now, as a mom to twin boys, August and Berlin, I searched for stories that reflected the beautiful, complicated, multicultural reality they’re growing up in — and decided to create the ones I couldn’t find.

Twins, But Different is inspired by the small moments in our home: two boys learning who they are, how they’re alike, and what makes each of them one-of-a-kind. My hope is that every child — twins or not — feels seen in these pages and learns to celebrate every part of who they are.

Writing has taken many forms throughout my life — from web series and comedy to recipes and digital storytelling — but this children’s book is one I’m most proud of. It’s the place where my creativity meets my purpose.

Thank you for being here. I hope my stories make you feel something true.

Let’s Read Together

The conversations that follow are always honest, curious, and full of magic.
